Jane Castor

Jane Castor serves as the 59th Mayor of the City of Tampa. Ms. Castor was previously the first woman and first openly gay person to serve as Chief of Police of the Tampa Police Department from 2009 to 2015. During her time as a senior staff member, Ms. Castor worked to reduce major crimes by 70% citywide, and developed and implemented an enhanced Citizen Academy to allow the community to get an inside look at the police department and foster positive working relationships. In her role as Police Chief, Ms. Castor was the recipient of the 2015 University of South Florida President’s Distinguished Citizen Award. Ms. Castor is also a member of the Climate Mayor’s Steering Committee, which serves as a coalition of U.S. mayors that identify ways cities can tackle climate crisis issues. Ms. Castor holds an undergraduate degree in Criminology from the University of Tampa, as well as an MPA from Troy State University.
