Jay Chaudhuri
NC State Senator – District 15
Jay J. Chaudhuri has spent his career fighting for and working on behalf of the people of North Carolina. For two decades, he has worked at the highest levels of all three branches of state government.
He graduated from Davidson College, Columbia University School of International Affairs, and North Carolina Central University School of Law with honors.
As State Senator representing the city of Raleigh, he led the fight on funding class sizes from kindergarten to third grade. He also led the fight on reducing gun violence in schools after the Parkland shootings. He has passed bipartisan legislation to return veteran teachers back to classrooms and allow child abuse victims to seek justice in court.
For the past two terms, Senate Democrats elected Jay as Minority Whip, the second-highest ranking position in the State Senate.
Jay lives with his wife Sejal and their two children, who both attend public schools. They recently got a golden retriever puppy named Lincoln.
