Author, Sisters in Hate: American Women on the Front Lines of White Nationalism
Seyward Darby is the editor in chief of The Atavist Magazine, where she has edited features honored with the Livingston Award for National Reporting and the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for War Correspondents. Her most recent work, Sisters in Hate: American Women on the Front Lines of White Nationalism, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice/Staff Pick and NPR Favorite Book of 2020. It was also shortlisted for the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize. Seyward has written for many publications including The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, The Washington Post, and The Cut.
Seyward was among FOLIO’s Top Women in Media in 2019, a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in 2019, and a fellow at the Sundance Institute in 2018. Seyward grew up in the South and now lives in Brooklyn with her husband, calico cat, and beagle-dachshund.
