Steven Reed is the 57th Mayor of the City of Montgomery. Mr. Reed, the first African American elected to this position, has made drastic improvements to mental health services in the city and has worked to initiate a statewide voter campaign centered on educating the public about new voter ID laws. Previously, like Montgomery County’s first African American and youngest elected Probate Judge, Mr. Reed expanded access to representation, improved facilities, and modernized his office to better serve the community. Mr. Reed received the Dr. Martin Luther King Leadership Award for Governmental Service and was previously chosen as a NewDEAL Leader, working to expand opportunity for all and make government work better. Mr. Reed was previously named to the Department of Homeland Security’s Election Integrity Commission and serves on the boards of the River Region United Way, the Metro Board of the Montgomery Area YMCA, Trustmark Bank, and Valiant Cross Academy. Mr. Reed holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehouse College and an MBA from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
